ADVANCED VIA FERRATA · EASTERN HERZEGOVINA
A full-day vertical expedition across the wild northern face of Velež.

This is not simply a via ferrata. It is a complete mountain undertaking.
Hidden in the northern face of Velež, the route known as Srce Veleža climbs through a succession of exposed walls, natural rock passages and demanding vertical sections towards Botin, the mountain’s highest summit.
The ferrata itself is only one part of the experience. A long wilderness approach, sustained climbing and a remote descent across the Velež plateau turn the day into a serious alpine journey—rewarded by immense views across the mountains and karst landscapes of Herzegovina.
The day begins beyond the villages near Nevesinje, following forest tracks and an increasingly wild trail towards the immense northern wall of Velež.
The 500-metre protected route gains approximately 350 metres through repeated vertical sections, exposed traverses and passages where natural rock holds form an essential part of the climb.
A short but powerful overhanging section forms the physical and technical crux of the route, requiring controlled movement, efficient climbing and complete concentration.
Near the top, a narrow traverse cuts across the face high above the landscape—one of the route’s most dramatic and memorable passages.
After leaving the cable, the journey can continue to Botin at 1,969 metres, the highest point of Velež, with far-reaching views across Herzegovina.
The adventure does not end at the top. A long and committing descent across rugged karst terrain completes the mountain journey.

For experienced via ferrata climbers with excellent fitness, a head for exposure and the ability to remain focused throughout a long mountain day.
Participants should already be comfortable on sustained C/D terrain and short E-grade passages. This is not suitable as a first via ferrata, for anyone uncertain at height or for travellers looking for a short, easily accessible activity.
Final participation should remain subject to the guide’s assessment of previous experience, fitness, conditions and weather.
Srce Veleža is remote, physically demanding and psychologically committing. The approach and descent are substantial, route-finding can be challenging, and retreat becomes difficult after entering the principal wall.
For that reason, Borova would offer this experience only with an appropriately qualified local guide, in a small private group and under suitable mountain conditions. An easier alternative should always be available if experience levels or conditions do not support a safe ascent.
The responsible local partner confirms the final itinerary, guide, price, inclusions and booking terms before you reserve.
Final inclusions would depend on the personalised itinerary.
